Appomattox River Fund

Note: This fund is currently inactive due to funds having been expended.

The Appomattox River Fund was established under VOF’s TERRA Program in December 2019 using mitigation funds through an agreement between the Virginia Outdoors Foundation and the Virginia Department of Transportation. The Fund’s purpose is to mitigate for the loss of riparian trees on a VOF easement in Amelia County resulting from a bridge replacement project. Grants will be awarded to projects that enhance water quality in the Appomattox River watershed.

To enhance water quality in the Appomattox River watershed.

Projects that help to directly and indirectly improve water quality in the watershed such as:

    • Tree plantings.
    • River clean-ups.
    • Trail improvement to reduce erosion.

There are no funding opportunities at this time.

  • Local governments.
  • Schools & universities.
  • Charitable corporations, associations, or trusts declared exempt from taxation pursuant to 26 U. S. C. A. 501 (c) (3). For example, environmental groups, land trusts, Scout troops, churches, etc.
  • Must be within the Appomattox River watershed.
  • Must be on land that is accessible by the public.
